From little things big things grow

It's over 10 years ago now that I made the decision to retrain to be a clinical nutritionist so I could support professionals that were suffering from chronic stress-related illnesses or recovering from burnout. As my clinical practice has evolved it becomes increasingly apparent that working with clients on a one-to-one basis is fabulous, but I'm operating as the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.

It was always my intention to integrate my many years of experience in social work, human resources, executive coaching and change management with my clinical studies to provide workplace health and wellbeing programs. While 2020 has been a crazy year, it’s given me the time and space to quietly work away at consolidating this intention. I'm finally pulling it all together to shift to more group-based programs designed to prevent burnout and minimise the impacts of chronic stress within the workplace.

Chronic stress-related illness and burnout are what I have dubbed the "silent epidemic". They are conditions that are spreading fast; not enough people are talking about burnout nor are they addressing the ecosystem that is creating and facilitating its ongoing spread. I want to change that by working with organisations to create environments where people can find their flow and flourish.

Epigenetics and chronobiology

Over the last 3 years or so I've been expanding my studies into the area of epigenetics and chronobiology. Epigenetics is the science of how behaviours and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work while chronobiology is the science of our biological rhythms. It looks at the effect of time of day and seasonal changes on our biological clocks. In 2019 became an endorsed PH360 Coach and have been using their amazing technology to support my nutrition and executive coaching clients.

I recently dived in deeper, undertook further training, and am now an approved ShaeWellness provider, which means I can now bring this wonderful health and wellbeing system into organisations of any size. ShaeWellness uses a combination of biology, epigenetics, personalisation and AI-driven technology that integrates ancient wisdom and cutting edge science into a powerful platform that we use to support your people to be happier, healthier, and improve both the physical and mental health of your team.

Proven results

I am very excited to be adding ShaeWellness to my toolkit as an evidence-based, scalable, workplace health and wellbeing solution. I've had the privilege of supporting Dr Cameron McDonald delivering a number of ShaeWellness programs recently and the results we've achieved within the organisations have been, in the words of the participants, transformational. To understand at an academic level the positive changes that can be made to employee health using a program like ShaeWellness is one thing, it's something altogether different to share the journey with the participants and hear their real-time feedback and profound learnings.

We've had participants losing weight - without trying! They are sleeping better, increasing energy and chronic digestive issues are disappearing. We've had comments about "how liberating it is" to know that things they had been led to believe were character flaws were in fact biological responses to stress. Not only have participants been able to connect better with colleagues and family, but they've also been better able to connect to themselves. One of the best outcomes I've seen is the dramatic changes being achieved in DAS (depression, anxiety and stress) scores.

It’s your turn now

I'm currently working on the delivery of leadership program using ShaeWellness with Trish Everett from Weave Workplaces that starts on 13 November. We have a couple of places left and would love to have you join us to experience the results for yourself.

If you are looking for options to support the health, wellbeing and culture of your team then let’s get together and discuss the possibilities. I'm already in discussions with organisations about in-house programs in the new year and my team of experienced health coaches are ready and eager to support your team.
